NEW YORK, Sept. 15 -- "Sex and the City 2," the sequel to the 2008 summer blockbuster, has begun principal photography in New York, Warner Bros. announced.

Returning in their starring roles are Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie, Kim Cattrall as Samantha, Kristin Davis as Charlotte and Cynthia Nixon as Miranda. "It's a great privilege to be spending time again with this beloved cast and crew and to be filming in New York City," Parker said in a statement. "We look forward to the next few months of this adventure."

Also back for the sequel are Chris Noth as Big, David Eigenberg as Steve, Evan Handler as Harry, Jason Lewis as Smith, Mario Cantone as Anthony and Willie Garson as Stanford Blatch.

"Sex and the City 2" also reunites the original creative team from the HBO comedy series and the first feature.

Michael Patrick King is once again directing from his own screenplay. "We are thrilled to have the luxury to continue to tell the story of these four iconic women characters: Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. We will do our best to entertain the loyal fans who were so supportive of the first movie," said King, who is also producing with Parker, John Melfi and Darren Star.

The movie is set to be released in theaters next Memorial Day weekend.

Sex and the City 2 Movie - Highlights and Updates

The Sex and The City 2 movie is slated to be released in May, 2010 yet the public has been abuzz about it for almost a year now. The appeal of four attractive women who wear designer clothes and shoes, sip cosmopolitans in bars, lament over lost loves, and excitedly hope for future love and success has been the recipe for a mega hit that has the masses swooning.

In fact, the first Sex and the City Movie which came out on May 30, 2008 grossed over $415 million. To further clarify the magnitude of this series which ran on HBO from 1998-2004, the opening weekend of the first movie in May, 2008 raked in $57 million and was released in 3325 theaters.

But what about Sex and The City 2? Will its success parallel the first movie, or might it even exceed that of Sex and The City? Apparently, the public is dying to know. Here are some recent stories in relation to Sex and The City 2 that have been released.

Fans Gone Crazy
Sex And The City 2 began filming in the beginning of September and fans have already let their maniac behavior be revealed in several incidences. Part of the filming which takes place in Manhattan's Upper East Side is where mobs of fans gathered as early as 7:00 am to catch a glimpse and hopefully an autograph of the stars.

But according to the New York Daily News, it was Cynthia Nixon who endured some rather maddening efforts by the crowd to get near her while filming a scene. Nixon, who plays Miranda Hobbes, had to cancel the scene and was helped to get safely back into her trailer when the crowds went crazy. According to the report, security has been increased because of the attention the stars of Sex And The City 2 are receiving.

Possible Plot Line Revealed
Another interesting tidbit about Sex And The City 2 is that Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones in Sex And The City 2, reportedly left part of a script visible. According to Britain's Mirror newspaper which got a close up on a page of the new script, Smith Jerrod (played by Jason Lewis) may be back in Samantha's life. Additionally, Samantha's experience with menopause may be a part of the script.

Who is Starring in Sex And The City 2?
So far, Sarah Jessica Parker, Chris Noth (Mr. Big - John James Prescott), David Eingenberg (Steve Brady), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes), Lynn Cohen (Magda) and Joseph Pupo (Brady Hobbes) have been seen filming Sex And The City 2 in New York at the beginning of September.

Wardrobe and Shoes
Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) has been caught on camera with two of her outfits from Sex And The City 2. One of them is a skinny jeans outfit with oversized and off the shoulder sweater and big 1980's hair. The other outfit features a pink Christian Loboutin's "Sylvia Drapey Hobo" and "Gino" t-strap heels.

Interestingly enough, it has also been reported that Manolo Blahnik, famous shoe designer who profited from a certain pair of royal blue satin shoes in the first movie, is not crazy about Sex And The City. Blahnik stated that he never wanted to be a celebrity designer. (Most of us may be wondering about that sentiment!)

Sex And The City: the Movie Sequel Gets Release Date

Mark your calendars, "Sex and the City" fans – the sequel to last summer's hit TV show adaptation will arrive in theatres on May 28, 2010. It's reported that all four stars – Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon – will return, along with writer-director Michael Patrick King.

Although plot details have yet to be released, Parker told MTV News in November that fans shouldn't expect to see Carrie sporting a baby bump underneath her high-fashion threads. "[Motherhood] doesn't seem as if that's going to be a choice she'll make," she said. "It feels a little bit manipulative to toss that into the mix because she seems so pointed in a different direction."

A source connected to the film said that in the sequel Sarah Jessica Parker's character Carrie Bradshaw will move to London after her husband Big is forced to take a job there, Contactmusic reported. "The sequel will include key scenes of Carrie Bradshaw and her husband Big in London, possibly shooting this winter for six weeks," the insider said.

The film will also see the lead character struggling with her husband's infidelity. "Carrie's trip to London does not look set be a happy one, with her husband's loneliness driving him to infidelity," the source added.

The sequel's release date mirrors that of the first movie, which hit theatres on the same weekend last year (May 30). It went on to pull in $412.6 million at the worldwide box office, a whooping amount for an R-rated romantic comedy.

P.S.
Us Weekly reports that writer-director Michael Patrick King just turned his screenplay in to New Line Cinema on June 8, saying, "I will be thrilled to deliver the sequel scripts to our four amazing stars just as soon as I finish checking them for typos!"
